Kenny Easley Cause of Death: Seattle Seahawks Legend's Battle With Kidney Disease
As soon as the news about the sudden demise of the Seattle Seahawks Legend reached his fans, many took to social media to pay tribute to the departed soul. Some also shared how Easley battled a serious and life-threatening kidney disease and what he went through.
Long before his Hall of Fame induction, Easley suffered through one of the toughest medical battles an athlete can face. In the late 1980s, he was diagnosed with idiopathic nephrotic syndrome, a severe kidney disorder that ultimately ended his NFL career at just 28 years old.
Idiopathic nephrotic syndrome is a kidney disorder in which the filtering units of the kidneys become abnormally leaky for reasons that are not clearly known, causing large amounts of protein to spill into the urine. This leads to low blood protein levels, swelling around the eyes and legs, foamy urine, weight gain from fluid retention, and often high cholesterol. It is commonly linked to conditions such as minimal change disease or focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, and is typically treated with corticosteroids, immunosuppressive medications, diuretics, and supportive measures like salt restriction to reduce symptoms and protein loss.
Some of the warning signs and symptoms of this condition include -
Swelling (edema)
Foamy or frothy urine
Sudden weight gain
Fatigue or low energy
Loss of appetite or feeling unwell
Swollen abdomen (ascites) in more severe cases
Increased risk of infections because of low protein levels
