Kate Middleton has associated herself with a cause that is close to her heart, akin to her late mother-in-law Princess Diana, who died after becoming a patron of a children's hospice in Wales. (Photo: Instagram/@_kate_middleton_royal)
Kate Middleton health: Ever since she got married into the British royal family, Kate Middleton has constantly been compared to her late mother-in-law Princess Diana, who left behind a legacy of her own and some mighty big shoes to fill. But, Kate's benevolence has often been likened to Diana's large-heartedness, in the manner in which they have both reached out to the public and taken up important and compassionate causes throughout their respective careers. Recently, the Princess of Wales visited a children's hospice in Wales, which had a close association with Diana, who was the Princess of Wales before her. On January 30, the 43-year-old Kate visited T Hafan ('Haven House' in Welsh), which is a charity that helps terminally-ill children and their families lead good quality, happy, and fulfilling lives. The hospice is reportedly located in Sully, South Wales. Diana's support helped build the place, and now Kate -- who is married to Prince William -- is following her footsteps. She was made the patron of the charity. Prior to that, her father-in-law King Charles was the patron, after the tragic and untimely death of Diana in 1997.
According to a People report, chief executive of T Hafan Irfon Rees said in a statement that they were 'deeply honoured' with Kate becoming a patron. "As our Patron, Her Royal Highness will be an inspiration for children with life-shortening conditions and their families, our dedicated staff and volunteers and everyone who so generously supports us... No parent ever imagines that their child's life will be short. Sadly this is the reality facing thousands of families in Wales. We can't stop this happening, but together we can make sure that no one lives their child's short life alone," he was quoted as saying.

The place opened in 1999 and was the first children's hospice in Wales. In all these years, it has continued to provide 'specialist' care to children with life-shortening conditions, offering vital support to them and their families, throughout life, at end of life, and beyond.
During her visit, Kate was shown around. She also interacted with the staff there, and spent quality time with children receiving care at the hospice along with their families. The senior member of the British royal family, who is next in line to become the queen, also reportedly enjoyed her time engaging in interesting play activities.
The visit comes as Kate slowly resumes official responsibilities and appearances after spending close to a year receiving care at home while undergoing treatment for cancer. In early 2024, it was revealed that she had undergone a scheduled abdominal surgery, post which she was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer, for which she took preventive chemotherapy for many months. Currently in remission, Kate has gradually started making public appearances again, and is immensely relieved to be resuming normal life.
