Kareena Kapoor is all set to portray the role of a person suffering from schizophrenia in her yet untitled film. The director of the film is Raj Kumar Gupta of 'No One Killed Jessica' fame. He recently confirmed that the film is a thriller and Kareena is the protagonist who encounters trouble after she steps out of the mental asylum. It is also based on a true story and is about Section 84 of the Indian Penal Code which is about the act of a person of an unsound mind. This isn't the first time Kareena is portraying someone with mental illness onscreen. In her film 'Heroine' too her character suffered from bipolar disorder.
What is schizophrenia?
It is derived from the Greek word which means split mind and is a mental disorder. The person suffering from it is called schizophrenic and often has hallucinations, speech problems, and cannot think clearly. The person is also unable to control his emotions and their behaviour is often erratic in nature.
Though this condition isn't too common, it is chronic in nature and people suffering from schizophrenia find it difficult to lead a normal life. Psychotherapy and behavioural therapy can help bring some change in such patients. Read more about this condition.
