Actress Gwyneth Paltrow, whose svelte figure is always envied is on a new 300 calorie a day winter diet plan. She defines her diet as a winter detox diet which would clear her body of toxins. The diet is unprocessed and has zero caffeine, gluten, or added sugar. It excludes all soy products, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, condiments, sugar, alcohol, caffeine and soda.

Gwyneth recommends starting your day with water and lemon followed by herbal tea. Carrot soup or lentil soup should be on the menu for lunch. Mid-day snacks should include a handful of seeds or a walnut lentil plate and a mug of hot lemon. Her dinner comprises a cup of quinoa and broccoli soup. Gwyneth says this version of her annual winter detox won't leave you feeling cold and hungry during the winter months .

A low-calorie diet might seem like the quickest and sure way to lose weight, but it could backfire in the long run. If you are limiting your total calorie intake to 300 calorie per day, you could be subjecting yourself to some of these negative side effects. Also, read how a low-calorie diet could kill you.

  • Women generally need a minimum of 1000 to 1200 calories in a day and men require at least 1200 to 1600 per day to meet their basic nutritional and energy needs. However, when the body does not receive the necessary calories from your diet, it can break down its own tissues for energy.
  • Eating less than 500 calories per day can also send you to starvation mode.
  • Since you are depriving your body of proper amounts of vitamins, minerals and electrolytes you could be experiencing weakness, intolerance to cold, fatigue, dizziness, constipation, and irregular menstrual periods.
  • One of the long term side effects of calorie-restricted diets is gallstones.
  • You may drastically lose a lot of muscle mass with a calorie-controlled diet. As your body does not receive enough protein, you are likely to burn more muscle than fat.
  • Further, a low-calorie diet can lead to electrolyte imbalances in your body that can leach the calcium from your bones, potentially weakening them and leading to osteoporosis.
  • A very low-calorie diet can lead to painful swelling and inflammation of the joints if you are suffering from gout or arthritis

Annapurna Agrawal, a nutritionist at Snap Fitness India, recommends a list of nutrients that are required by our body every day and also suggests the exact amount one should eat per day. If you want to detox yourself, you can also try this healthy diet plan.
