After two super-speciality hospitals Rajiv Gandhi Hospital in East Delhi and Janakpuri Hospital in West Delhi the Delhi government has decided to set-up another super-speciality hospital in Dwarka, West Delhi with 700 beds with the government auctioning Rs 566 crore for setting it up. It's to be called the Indira Gandhi Hospital in Dwarka, reports TOI.
According to the TOI article, both the older super-speciality articles are underutilised but that hasn't stopped the government from sanctioning the setting up of a third one. Principal secretary (PWD) Arun Baroka, however, assured that the hospital in Dwarka would be ready by March, 2017. 'Construction work for the 700-bed super-specialty hospital in Dwarka will start soon. All necessary formalities have been completed,' he said in a statement issued by the government. Baruka said the hospital, which would cater to residents of west, northwest and adjoining districts will be constructed on 60,000sq meters. A part of plot has been reserved for a medical college to be built in the future. The hospital consists of broadly three blocks-a five-storeyed emergency block, a five-storeyed OPD block and an eight-storeyed ward block,' the principal secretary said.
The hospital will have 32 lifts and will use base isolation technology to keep the building operational even after an earthquake. 'The basement of the building will house approximately 1,600 cars and there will also be surface parking apart from surface parking along with various electrical services. There is provision of cobalt and linear-accelerator for radio therapy,' stated the release issued by the government.
It's believed that the new hospital will cater to the needs of five lakh residents of Dwarka. The principal secretary added: 'All types of diagnostic and testing facilities shall be available in the hospital. There will also be an intensive care unit. Intensive care service will include care of all kinds of patients requiring intensive medical and nursing care including cardiac patients. A total of 80 beds have been allocated for the ICU and the operation complex will have two operation theatres for surgical and maternity cases.'
