The most common form of dementia, Alzheimer's is a degenerative mental disorder that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior. Though commonly seen in elders, these days it is increasingly becoming common with younger people.
Ways to prevent Alzheimer's:
Though there is no cure for Alzheimer's known currently, there may be ways to prevent or delay the symptoms by changes in lifestyle. A combination of regular exercise, healthy diet, quality sleep and managing stress are some of the best ways to prevent Alzheimer's.
Here are ways to prevent Alzheimer's disease.
Krtin Nithiyanandam, of Epsom, Surrey, has developed a test that could potentially diagnose Alzheimer's up to ten years before the first symptoms appear. Early detection is the best chance to stop the progression of the diseases. The 15-year-old Indian-origin boy in the UK has developed an antibody called 'trojan horse' that penetrates the brains and attaches to the neurotoxic proteins which are present in the very first stages of the disease. The antibodies, which would be injected into the blood stream are also attached to fluorescent particles which can then be picked up on a brain scan. Krtin submitted his test to the Google science fair prize and learned that he had made it through to the final last week. He will find out next month if he has won a prestigious scholarship and mentoring to take his idea further. "The main benefits of my test are that it could be used to diagnose Alzheimer's disease before symptoms start to show by focusing on pathophysiological changes, some of which can occur a decade before symptoms are prevalent," Krtin said.
