Wing Commander Namansh Syal, the Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot, was tragically killed when a Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA Mk-1) crashed during a flying demonstration at the Dubai Air Show on Friday. The IAF confirmed the sudden demise of the 34-year-old pilot.
According to reports, Namansh Syal was on a single-seat Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) while he was performing a low-level aerobatic manoeuvre on the last day of the air show, right before the ill-fated fighter jet went down at around 2:10 pm. The cause of the crash is still uncertain.
Expressing grief over the death of Wing Commander Namansh Syal, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu wrote on X, "The news of the demise of Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district's brave son Naman Syal Ji in the Tejas aircraft accident at the Dubai Air Show is extremely heartbreaking and heart-rending.
"The nation has lost a brave, dutiful, and courageous pilot. I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved family members. I pay heartfelt tribute to the indomitable bravery, dedication to duty, and commitment to national service of brave son."

The 34-year-old Wing Commander Namansh Syal was a resident of Kangra District in Himachal Pradesh. He is survived by his wife, who is also an IAF officer, and their 6-year-old daughter, including his parents. Wing Commander Namansh Syal was commissioned into the Indian Air Force (IAF) on 24 December 2009.
A close relative of Wing Commander Namansh Syal told the media, "Namansh's parents are currently at the Sulur Air Force Station near Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. His wife, who also serves in the IAF, is in Kolkata for a course. His father Jagannath Syal served in the Indian Army's medical corps and later worked in the education department, before retiring as a principal." Relative Ramesh Kumar further added that Wing Commander Namansh Syal was a squadron leader and was due for a promotion.
