New Delhi, Dec 2: India was the first country to adopt the Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) global monitoring framework and action plan, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda told the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. A comprehensive national action plan was organised by the health ministry and the World Health Organisation (WHO) Country office for India in Guwahati (Nov 29-30, 2013), Bengaluru (Dec 13-14, 2013) and Delhi (Dec 19-20, 2013), said Nadda in a written reply.
'Participants included over 250 senior health officials from the national, sub-national level (from all states and union territories), experts and civil society representatives,' Nadda said. 'Various NCD programmes are being implemented in the country such as the National Programme of Health Care of Elderly (NPHCE), the National Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB) and the National Mental Health Programme (NMHP),' he added.
