A horrifying event in China has raised serious questions about food safety when news of the discovery of human teeth in sausages and dim sum spread across the internet. The unusual results have raised the concern of many citizens and common sense is doubted on the standards of hygiene and quality control in food processing premises in the country.
Chinese media reported that clients in many cities had detected hard, tooth-like materials as they consumed shop-bought sausages and dim sum. The objects were in other instances confirmed by local authorities to be similar to human teeth evoking immediate community outrage. The photos and videos found on the internet have gone viral on social media and there was a spread of disbelief and talk.
The event under investigation is being investigated by the authorities. Forensic tests have been done on the product samples to determine the presence of human teeth in the products and any other contaminants like bone fragments. Companies dealing with food manufacturing have, in their turn, stopped production until results.
It has aroused a disgusted and angry response in the populace. Although research is still ongoing, the human teeth scare has acted as a wake up call to the consumers as well as to the food manufacturers. It is a regulatory obligation to ensure clean, safe and trustworthy food for the health of millions of people.
