Kim Kardashian's waist is increasingly being the centre of attraction after she has been compulsively following a stringent 'waist training'. Her hourglass figure was the talk of the town when she recently posted a 'selfie' on her Instagram account. The caption to this picture said, 'I m really obsessed with waist training! Thank you @premadonna87 for my new waist shapers! #whatsawaist.' She has also been sporting the 'shapers' for her shrunken-waist look. In this 'selfie,' Kim is wearing a slimming corset or 'shapers' to enhance her curves. The reality show star is also known to get the perfect 'belfie' for her buttocks recently and won the title of the 'world's best ass.'
However she is also known to work out for her curves and sticks to the military, rugged way of exercising. She attends the Barry's Bootcamp in West Hollywood, California, regularly to slim down and have her body well in shape.
Wearing the slimming corset or 'shapers' or following the 'corset diet' may definitely make your waistline look much slimmer but it however comes with its own set of drawbacks:
Compresses and deforms your organs
Wearing such a corset for long hours is not only unhealthy and uncomfortable but it may also be a major cause of deforming your organs. Such diets are like quick fixes but mostly don t work. In fact, wearing a corset for long periods can restrict your breathing,' says Deanne Panday, fitness expert.
Disables you from consuming healthy foods
Pooja Makhija, nutritionist and clinical dietitian, explains why this concept of weight loss is a big no-no, A corset won t affect the size of your stomach, it can only help to contract the epidermis layer. The only way it can work is by being really uncomfortable to wear, thereby not allowing the person to enjoy their food. It might also reduce blood circulation to the lower limbs resulting in cramps or numbness. Read more on Corset diet: Weight loss without exercising or dieting?
Worsens body condition with time
This kind of slimming corset is definitely a no-no as the dangers include deforming your organs, causing you to faint and keep you away from consuming the foods your body needs to keep up with high-intensity workouts, muscle building and recovery.
Doesn't last too long
Using the 'shapers' may control your diet, out of compulsion and would cause you immense discomfort. You would have your waist looking slimmed down but not for too long as this 'forceful body shaper' would soon show its ill-effects on your health.
Work that waist out, naturally
The plank exercise
Regular exercises that focus on a flat tummy would prove beneficial for an attractive waist line. The plank exercise is one such workout you could do at home.
Steps: Lie down on your tummy and then come on your palms and toes. Lift the knees off the floor. Draw your tummy muscles up and breathe deeply in to the side and back of the rib cage. Aim to hold the pose for 30 seconds.
TheHundred Exercise
You would definitely need a regular sets of some Pilates exercise to defines your stomach muscles and work on strengthening your back.
Steps: Bring the legs in to a table top position, hip-width apart. Lift the arms up off the floor and lift the head, neck and chest upwards, being careful not to strain the neck but taking the strain to the tummy. Start to pulse the arms up and down. If you would like to advance the pose, extend the legs up towards the sky. Keep the tummy muscles taught and aim to continue for 50 seconds.
Static Tiger pose
Apart from working on your waist and tummy area, you need to work on building your core strength too. It helps maintain body balance as you are on your knees for this exercise.
Steps: Place your hands and knees on the floor. This is the starting position. Now lift up one leg and extend the opposite arm. Hold this Static Tiger Pose for 3 deep breaths. Come back to the starting position and swap sides, extending arm and opposite leg. You can look down towards the mat to keep the spine in line.
Sitting Spinal Twist
Sit on the floor and cross your legs. Place one hand next to your hip and the other on the knee. Rotate the spine and look over one shoulder in to a Sitting Spinal Twist. Inhale. Exhale back to centre. Swap sides, rotating and looking over the shoulder. Inhale. Exhale back to centre. This pose will trim and define the waist.
Trick to make these exercises work
Every time you are doing any of these pulling, pushing or leg exercises, pay attention on holding your abs tight to create a natural corset illusion. It is important that you focus on the contractions during these exercises and hold them for long. Do these exercises at least 3-5 sets per work out.
