A recent study affirms a rather traditional belief that daylight levels in schools could help in the prevention ofmyopia. The results of this study were first published in the journalPerspectives in Public Health, which compared the history of school myopia with rickets. Myopia, like rickets, could get worse during winter. This study has stated how schoolchildren who are exposed to more daylight could have lower levels of myopia. Know all about child myopia here.

However, unlike rickets, low ambient light levels rather than low vitamin D levels seem to be the deciding factor in myopia, it said. It has not been investigated properly since the connection was first made in the 1860s, said study author Richard Hobday, an independent researcher.

But, given the rapid increase in myopia among school children worldwide, this should be revisited, Hobday added.

A century ago, it was widely believed that high daylight levels in schools could prevent myopia. Education departments built classrooms with large windows to try to stop children becoming short-sighted.Find out if lack of sunlight causes myopia.

Then in 1960s, medical thinking changed. Myopia was thought to be an inherited condition; so less was done to prevent it. Today, it is known that children's education has a far greater impact on their sight than genetic factors, the study pointed out.

Apart from myopia here are a few more conditions that can cause blurred-vision:

Cataract: The clouding condition of the eye lens results to cataract. Cataracts usually develop slowly, and with time they may tend to detreirate your vision. During this time, you may experience light sensitivity and experience double vision. Surgery is the safest suggested way of dealing with cataracts. Read more about cataract.

Glaucoma: In this eye condition the optic nerve is damaged, which leads to eventual loss of vision. Acute angle-closure glaucoma (where a person loses vision from the corners of the eyes first and then completely loses the ability to see) is one of the most common types of this eye condition. Some symptoms of this eye condition include reddening of eye, eye pain, nausea and vomiting and formation of a halo around light. Here are more such conditions leading to blurry vision.
