Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader has urged the builders in Manglore to help in prevention of mosquito breeding in the city by assigning a worker to clean stagnant waters in construction sites regularly. Speaking at a malaria awareness programme organised by Confederation of Real Estate Developers Associations of India (CREDAI) Mangalore along with the city corporation in Manglore on Wednesday, he said that such a step would help in controlling malaria in the city to a great extent.
Voicing his concern over the rising malaria cases in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, Khader said that 61% of malaria cases in the state are from the undivided DK district. Of the 5329 malaria cases reported in DK, 4822 are from the city. The city has become a breeding source of epidemic diseases, he said. The minister urged CREDAI to adopt a lake on a pilot project and develop it and said such initiatives would have a long-lasting effect than organising awareness programmes. This would also provide comfortable environment to city dwellers.
