In a first of its kind, Haryana village has come up with a unique initiate to save the girl child. The campaign termed as selfie-with-daughter is becoming a rage amongst the villagers. The drive launched by Bibipur village panchayat has asked parents from across the state to take selfies with their daughters and send it to village Sarpanch Sunil Jaglan through social messaging app Whatsapp. Also Read - Medical selfies help patients feel satisfied: Study

It is a known fact that the sex ratio has been dismally low in the Northern states. Haryana is among the bottom five states in terms of sex ratio. In 2014, the sex ratio at birth was 871, a marginal increase from 868 in 2013. To prevent female foeticide and increase the standing of women in society, Sunil Jaglan along with his team came up with this idea.

Usually we don t see many pictures of daughters in people s house here. The objective of the contest is to increase the importance of daughters in their homes. Clicking selfies is the latest craze, so we decided to hold this contest to encourage parents to take pictures with their daughters, Jaglan added.

Wondering what will you get if you send selfies? The village panchayat declared that the best three selfies would be awarded trophies, certificates and a cash prize. Judged by 30 women, the results will be declared on June 19.

All we can say is keep clicking selfies and support the initiate to save the girl child!
