We wish mothers across the world a Happy Mother s Day. And if you belong to this sisterhood of motherhood you know that being a mother isn t easy by any means. We mothers are constantly worried if we are doing the right thing, if we are giving enough time, care and affection to our children and in the bargain we usually forget to celebrate the joy and spirit of motherhood. So this time we thought to do it a little differently we wanted mothers to celebrate motherhood and tell us why they think they are a great mom.

Kiran Manral, mother and noted author

I am a good mom because I tell myself I am every single day. It is so very easy to feel inadequate and to compare yourself to other moms and find yourself coming up short. But to accept that you are the best mom you could be, and that you do the best you can is a gift you give yourself as a parent, as also to your child, that liberates you from the constant, never ending guilt of not being good enough . It also acknowledges the amount of effort that goes into parenting, something we took for granted with our parents and only just realise how overwhelming it might have been for them too. Granting ourselves the right to appreciate ourselves is difficult, we are constantly critical of ourselves, often for no reason. Therefore, I am a good mom. As all of us moms are indeed.

Pooja Bedi, mother of two and actor

I think I am a great mother because my children assure me that I am. It is not because I think I am a great mom.

I carry the guilt of being a working mother and really don t think at times I am a great mom. But when I am around my son I make sure that I am his age so he doesn t need anyone more. I get to understand his sign language as he is too young to speak. But the way he cuddles up to me, plays with me makes we feel really special. In fact, more than being a great mom I think I am a happy mom and that is what makes me feel content.

Recently my seven-year-old daughter told me that I am not just her mom but her friend too that kind of validates it for me. Also, she is a happy, jovial, curious and inquisitive kid. She wins a lot of hearts wherever she goes. So the kind of person she is growing up to be makes me really proud of her. And yes there are those moments of mommy-hugs and cuddles that really make you feel special.
