Poll authorities in Goa should emulate Jammu and Kashmir and Bihar and ban smoking in polling booths in the state, an anti-tobacco group demanded Wednesday.
'It is requested that all election booths be declared tobacco free zones, by installing anti-smoking signboards - both inside as well as outside the booths,' Shekhar Salkar, general secretary of the National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE), said in a memorandum to the Goa chief electoral officer. Salkar said election authorities in Jammu and Kashmir and Bihar have already taken the step to formally ban tobacco use in polling booths. Goa's two parliamentary constituencies go to the polls April 12. (Read: Quit smoking naturally the yoga way to kick the butt)
