Girl dies due to doctor's negligence: UT panel

A 16-year-old girl died in Uttar Pradesh after being crushed under a Chandigarh Transport Undertaking bus. She was immediately rushed to PGIMER hospital, where according to the girl's family, the doctors did not treat her with due care and skill.

The girl's family had filed a complaint at the consumer redressal commission, blaming the PGI doctors of medical negligence. The panel set up to review this cases said that the primary complaint of the family was that the doctors did not give the girl adequate medical treatment leading to her death.

After examining the case the panel said that had the doctors, treated the girl's crushed leg on the same day of the accident, the wounds would not have developed gangrene leading to septicemia and eventually her death. They have directed PGIMER to pay a sum of 7 lakhs as compensation and Rs 25,000 as legal costs, while the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking bus has been asked to pay Rs 3 lakhs for the deficiency in service.
