A chemical company in Thane's Ambernath reported a gas leak late Thursday (September 12, 2024) night. According to reports coming in from the Ambernath Fire Brigade officials, the gas leak took place when the company was venting gas after which the gas reportedly spread throughout the area causing a haze an foggy roads across the city. Fire brigade officials were immediately informed of the leak after which they reached the spot.

As per reports, locals and residents of the area have complained of experiencing several health problems after the gas engulfed nearby areas. They have been experiencing itchy eyes, reduced visibility, throat irritation and difficulty in breathing. Multiple pictures are circulating social media right now showing the visuals of foggy roads in Ambernath.

Reports from media and officials state that emergency teams have already been deployed and an alert has been issued by authorities urging the residents to stay indoors. Further investigation about the gas leak and its possible causes are underway.

According to official statements of the disaster management cell of the Ambernath municipal council to the media, the leak was due to a cylinder and the situation in now under control. There was no casualty due to the leak as well. However, the MIDC along with the fire brigade officials are investigating the matter. There are a number of chemical factories in Ambernath and according to repots from 2021, another gas leak from a factory had lead to the hospitalisation of more than 30people. Due to this the disaster management cell of Ambernath has said that they were thinking of a place to avoid such disasters in the future.
