On Saturday, a live heart was air lifted from Bengaluru to Hyderabad and was transported in s short span of 2 minutes 45 seconds from the airport to Yashoda hospital in Secunderabad to save the life of 40 year old woman, as reported by The Hindu. The heart belonged to a 30-year-old labourer who was declared brain dead after he met with an accident. After his heart found a matching recipient in Hyderabad it was decided that it will be airlifted to save the woman's life. (Read: High intensity exercise safe for heart transplant survivors)
This effort required effective coordination not only between the doctors but also the traffic authorities. The transportation was successful due to the inter-city coordinated effort as a 'green corridor' was created between Victoria hospital and the airport, to carry the harvested heart in a smooth and uninterrupted manner. Upon reaching the destination, the doctors at Yashoda Hospital began the process of transplantation.
