August 3 is International Friendship Day.
With Friendship Day 2014 around the corner, we look back at some of the iconic friendships we've seen on TV and narrow down the list to the top five:
Joey and Chandler (TV Show: Friends; Played by: Matt Le Blanc and Matthew Perry)
When you say the word 'friends', the first thing that comes to your mind is the show . The second thing probably is the amazing bond shared by Joey and Chandler. Till Chandler moved out, the duo had some amazing moments like watching Baywatch together, playing foosball, buying a chick and duck and other equally dim-witted escapades. In fact, we'll be hard pressed to find a romantic couple that pine for each other the way Chandler and Joey did when Joey moves out.
Defining Friendship Moment: When Joey returns to the apartment after losing his job at his TV show and Chandler tells his new crazy roommate that he already has a roommate!
Raj and Howard (Show: The Big Bang Theory; Played by: Kunal Nayyar and Simon Helberg)
There's no bromance on television that can match the Raj-Howard relationship so much so that Leonard's mother a psychiatrist described the relationship as an ersatz homosexual marriage. Even Raj's mother says that the closest she's had to a daughter-in-law is that Jewish boy Howard. The two of them share a very close bond which is sometimes complicated by Raj's metrosexual ways, especially when Raj recalls a dream where he and Howard both had mansions with a secret tunnel that connects Howard's front yard to his backyard!

Ted and Marshall (TV Show: HIMYM; Played by: Josh Radnor and Jason Segel)
It's hard to keep Barney Stinson out of a list but if we had to select the best friends on television, we'd find it very difficult to find a bond stronger than Marshall and Ted's. Roomies from college it took them a little time to become friends since Marshall thought Ted was pretentious, while Ted thought the former was a slob. Of course, they become best friends (with benefits according to Barney) when they take a road trip together and get buried in the snow. There are few friendships on television that have lasted so long and have been that amazing.
Defining Friendship Moment: The duo singing 500 Miles on their road trip because the tape was stuck in the machine.
Sherlock Holmes and James Watson (Show: BBC's Sherlock, Played by: Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman)
The original bromance imagined by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle BBC's Sherlock brings the duo to life beautifully. Both of them share amazing chemistry and despite being flippant and derogatory with John. John compliments Sherlock brilliantly by being the saner of the two and also the one who can add the human touch needed to solve cases. In fact, such is their bond, that people often believe the two of them are gay with one of the girlfriend's even noting that Sherlock was a very lucky man to have John in his life. Despite being a self-confessed sociopath, Sherlock goes as far as to be John's Best Man at his wedding and gives a speech, something he absolutely abhors.

Denny Crane and Alan Shore
While they're both high flying lawyers, Alan Shore and Denny Crane are like chalk and cheese. They are political opposites and have a huge age difference but they get along like a house on fire. Most of Boston Legal's jokes stem from the duo's escapades which always end with them chomping on their cigars on the office roof.
Best Friendship Moment: When Denny Crane shoots a man who is threatening to kill Alan Shore.
