The Odisha government asked the state health department to furnish a report about the kidney racket in Cuttack while three more arrests were made in connection with the racket taking the number of arrests to five. 'I have asked the department Secretary to furnish a detail report on the kidney racket in Cuttack,' Health and Family Welfare Minister Atanu S Nayak told reporters here. Police also conducted a test identification (TI) parade at Choudwar jail in which relatives of a poor victim identified one of the arrested middlemen in presence of the magistrate. 'The successful TI Parade would help to build up a strong case against Nirakar Choudhury, who was picked up earlier from his native village at Kendrapara district,' an investigating police officer said here after the TI parade. Similarly, the other alleged kingpin in the case, a woman named Sharmishta Naik of Mangalabag area is now being made the common accused in both cases of kidney sale that are under investigation by the city police. Sharmishta is likely to be taken under police remand for further grilling, the officer said hinting some influential people can be behind her in this organ trade. Police also arrested Sharmishta's husband Dillip and two relatives of a kidney recipient on several charges of forgery and perjury. In both cases police already established that several necessary documents required for organ donation were fraudulently manufactured. The Commissionerate police of the twin city are also planning to submit a report on this to the health department. (Read: Lack of donors fuelling illegal kidney racket?)
