Fortis Hospital Noidashowcased three unique cases successfully operated through plastic and reconstructive surgery. This was in an initiative to highlight the importance of this surgical department in a hospital on the occasion of World Plastic Surgery Day. The surgical team was led byDr. Vishwanath Dudani, Senior Consultant & Dr. Arvind Jain, Consultant, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Fortis Hospital, Noida.

Saurabh, 25 years, met with a road accident in which his face got severely damaged with almost 90% destruction of his mouth, lips and nose. The patient was neuro surgically stable and was taken for surgery the very same day. His injury was thoroughly evaluated in the OT and found that there was cross contamination, the tongue was 2/3rd cut, part of lower lip and part of upper lip were missing; lower part of right side of nose was missing and left side of cheek was badly lacerated. Left sided peri-orvital region of left eye was badly damaged. The doctors began with a thorough cleansing and debridement and after revaluating to estimate the defects proceeded with the reconstruction. Part of restoration of defect was performed and the patient was put for further surgery for reconstruction of the lower lip, right cheek, upper lip, tip of nose, collumela, sil of nose and Right side of peri-orvital was also corrected. Patient Ashish, 23 years, met with a road accident with a matador in which his right foot was severely crushed and was referred to our higher centre for opinion too. The hospitals he visited explained that the only treatment that could be possible was amputation below his knee. When he was presented to Dr. Dudhani the doctors planned to salvage the foot with thorough discussion with the parents and prognosticated. Patient has undergone 4 planned surgeries, which was performed at intervals. Surgeries were performed to remove dead and devitalized tissues and simultaneously revascularization of foot was established and bony frame work was also re-established which had suffered fracture and displacement. Eight year old Kunal suffered an accident in which a fodder cutting machine cut his part of right hand off. His right hand was partial (with three fingers) chopped off at proximal palm level but the thumb and the index figure was attached with the wrist. After initial first aid, he was presented to Dr. Dudhani for further course of treatment. The challenge for the team of doctors lay in putting the patient s hand together as it demanded highest level of skill and expertise in re-joining tiny the arteries, veins, nerves and tendons. After almost 12 hours of surgery the severed hand successfully put back to native right hand.Replantation is the reattachment of a completely detached body part Fingersandthumbsare the most common but other body parts have also been replanted but with great difficulty.
