Farhan Akhtar is one of the few actors who completely transform their body to portray a character onscreen. In Bhaag Milkha Bhaag he had a physique which made even guys drool and have a man-crush on him and in his next Wazir he plays an ATS cop. For this too, he has bulked up and how! We got in touch with his fitness trainer Samir Jaura who reveals how he helped Farhan get ripped for Wazir .
Farhan plays an ATS officer in the film. What is his physique like in Wazir?
The look Farhan wanted in this film was that of a tough-looking cop. Even though he does not show too much of his body in the film, you can make out his physique from his clothes as well. What was his workout routine?
Farhan trained five days a week and the training was quite intense. We focussed mostly on strength training with heavy weights and low number of reps to increase muscle size. This is what his routine was like:
He trained 6 times a week for 1.5-2 hours a day. This routine is called split training.
Did he have to alter his diet to support this workout regimen?
Unlike Bhaag Milkha Bhaag where we eliminated carbs from his diet, for Wazir Farhan ate complex carbs as part of his meals. He also had about 5-6 meals throughout the day with protein and complex carbs in every meal. His main protein sources were chicken, fish, turkey and protein powders. How healthy/unhealthy is it for actors to alter their physique so often?
Since he changes his physique under the guidance of a professional trainer, it is not unhealthy. I pay keen attention to his workout and diet routine and any modification that has to be made to the same as per his film s look.
I know how much we can push him, what is his schedule like so that we can work out accordingly. All these details are monitored to make sure he stays healthy whilst all these body transformations.
What tips do you keep in mind when doing so?
The first and most important thing I keep in mind is to make sure the actor does not get injured while working out. To prevent this, I make sure Farhan stretches his body well before the workout. A small injury too can cause a setback of 10 days so it is important to avoid it.
