Chlamydia is caused by bacteria known as Chlamydiatrachomatis. Women can get chlamydia in their cervix, rectum, or throat. Men can get chlamydia in their urethra (inside the penis), rectum, or throat. You can suffer from chlamydia during oral or having sex with someone who has the infection. Moreover, a woman can also pass chlamydia to her baby during childbirth. Now, a new study offers hope to treat it. A study published in the journal Scientific Reports suggested that this new treatment is different from the traditional antibiotic treatment as it is a type of gene therapy that is delivered via nanotechnology and is showing a 65 per cent success rate in preventing chlamydia infection via single dose. Emmanuel Ho, a professor at Waterloo’s School of Pharmacy says, “As antibiotic resistance continues to develop, people may suffer from chlamydia infections which cannot be treated through conventional means. If it is left untreated or if one’s treatment takes is prolonged then it can lead to infertility and other reproductive issues as well. As the US Food and Drug Administration has approved this first siRNA-based drug. This kind of research will be able to be widely available in the near future.” Also Read - Sex mistakes couples should stop making now: Expert

The treatment

In case you have any of the symptoms then you should consult your expert who might help you with proper diagnosis and medications. Avoid self-medication as opting for over-the-counter products can be risky.

Natural remedies

You should opt for garlic

Various studies observed that allicin (a compound) found in garlic is loaded with antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties and can help you tackle infection and boost your immunity. Include it in your diet regularly by adding it to your soup, veggies and many other dishes.

You should opt for turmeric

Turmeric can fasten the healing process of affected tissues speeding it up as it is antiseptic in nature and rich in antioxidants. You can have turmeric milk or add it to your veggies and other dishes.

You should opt for probiotics

You can go for probiotics like kombucha, as it is jam-packed with high levels of healthy bacteria which can help you deal with chlamydia and other bad bacteria. The range of live bacteria in these foods come together to support a healthy digestive system, boost immunity and help you detoxify.
