Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is in India to hold a town hall Q&A at IIT Delhi. He and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Modi's previous USA visit had put forth a concept of digital India which was appreciated and criticised equally. Facebook had launched an open platform for internet sharing called Internet.org now called Free Basics. Through Free Basics, Facebook wants to offer affordable internet services to less developed countries.
Mark Zuckerberg in his address today said that the one of the goals of Facebook would be to make access to educational resources easily available in the most remote areas. It would help educating children make technology available to those who do not have easy access to it. Improving health services and science is another goal. With easy access to technology now, we are now able to cure most of the disease, but Mark pointed out that America spends 50% more money in treating patients over curing them so that people don't get sick in the first place. Citing that this might be the condition everywhere in the world, he said Facebook will focus more on making long-term investments that will cure diseases and develop technologies that will not only cure the disease completely but also improve suffering of patients.
