When you are suffering from a lifestyle disease like diabetes you have to be extra careful while travelling or going out. You cannot eat the way you want and have fun and medicine box and insulin jabs are your travel partner. But from now on whenever you are planning a trip, keep these tips in mind.

Pam Noonan, who is a registered nurse/diabetes educator for Sutter Gould Medical Foundation, says,

  1. Before leaving for the trip, locate the nearest hospital and a pharmacy near your destination.
  2. Carry a list of medicines and insurance cards and keep them handy so that you can access them easily in case of an emergency.
  3. Carry your medicines in your hand bags in case unexpected delays prevent you from accessing your baggage. Read: First aid tips for diabetic emergencies
  4. Carry your own food and water in case your flight is delayed. This prevents eating unhealthy food.
  5. Always carry a sugar source like glucose tablets or non perishable juice boxes to prevent hypoglycemia.
  6. Carry a backup glucose meter with extra batteries just in case of an emergency.
  7. Wear an identification card with your entire medical details and your contact details.
