The study regarding the hormone osteocalcin gives a new insight into how lifestyle changes that affect the body, like exercise, could positively affect your brain. Yes, you have heard it right! If are experiencing memory loss symptom then exercise will help you to deal with it. We are not kidding!

According to Eric R Kandel, Professor at the Columbia University, everyone will suffer from age-related memory loss in their lifetime, so it is very much important to understand the causes of memory loss and identify ways to tackle it. If you are suffering from memory loss then you will find it difficult to do your real-world activities easily. Moreover, forgetting things can take a toll on your physical and mental well-being and can hamper your productivity. So, this study shows how osteocalcin interacts with key proteins in the brain to enhance your memory.

According to Kandel, memory loss was treated as a singular disorder, for many years. Now, scientists have realized that Alzheimer's disease, which begins in a part of the brain known as the entorhinal cortex, which lies at the foot of the hippocampus. Whereas, age-related memory loss, begins within the hippocampus itself, in a region which is known as the dentate.

A deficiency in a protein called RbAp48 protein, a significant contributor to age-related memory loss but not Alzheimer's, was identified by the Kandel's team. Both in mice and in people, the protein levels decline with age. In a series of experiments, which were reported in the journal Cell Reports, the team observed that that RbAp48 controls the expression levels of two other proteins regulated from osteocalcin. If the function of RbAp48 is inhibited, osteocalcin infusions have no effect on the animals' memory. To kick-start the process, osteocalcin needs RbAp48.

Reportedly, exercise may be the best way to stave off or even treat, age-related memory loss in people, revealed the findings of the study. According to the studies which were conducted in mice, moderate exercise, such as walking, triggers the release of osteocalcin in your body. So, just get going and start exercising to fight age-related memory loss.
