Encephalitis Now A Global Health Emergency, Declares WHO
The WHO and Encephalitis International called on policymakers, public health officials, healthcare providers, and researchers to adopt their recommendations in order to save lives and minimize the disability linked to encephalitis.
The World Health Organization (WHO) and Encephalitis International have issued a new alert regarding encephalitis, a condition that causes brain inflammation. The global health organization stresses that this severe brain condition is increasingly becoming a worldwide health issue.
The UN health organization has published a Technical Brief highlighting the urgent need for improved prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of the disease.
The Technical Brief outlines the worldwide burden of encephalitis, key actions required to improve prevention, data collection and surveillance, diagnostics and treatment, aftercare and awareness, and research innovation.
Dr Ava Easton, the chief executive of Encephalitis International said to media, "Encephalitis is an increasing global threat. Without urgent attention and investment, we will see more needless deaths and disabilities from the condition."
WHO and Encephalitis International urged policymakers, public health professionals, healthcare providers, and researchers to implement its recommendations to save lives and reduce disability associated with encephalitis.
