The instant you feel the vibrations, fall to the floor and seek shelter behind a strong table or desk, and hang on until the shaking has ceased. It is the most suggested and the safest international safety measure.
Do not go running out in tremors. Remain indoors and keep more distance between the windows, glasses, mirrors or any other item that can break and lead to injuries.
In case full of a table, cower to ground close to any interior wall and use your arms, pillow, or a bag to protect your head and neck against falling objects.
Elevator shafts and staircases can be damaged in case of an earthquake. They should only be used once the building is declared to be safe.
