The festival of Navratri is here and it is an auspicious time for everyone. While people hailing from Gujrat celebrate it as a festival where there is garba and dandiya, the Bengalis celebrate it as the seven days of Durga pooja. For people from the south, especially Tamilians, this is when they celebrate Golu. A lovely festival where people decorate their homes with Golu -- which is a step-ladder like structure which has dolls and other artifacts depicting the godess and other animals. But what makes this day -- ashtami-- special is the fact that it is the eight and penultimate day of Navratri -- which demands special naivedyam or bhog to be offered to the godess. If you are celebrating this day with a lot of pomp and show, here is a simple and healthy recipe for kadalaparuppu pradhaman, a sweet meat that is soupy in texture and wonderfull to taste.
Made with lentils and jaggery -- this prasad is healthy and can keep you full for a long time. It is also perfect if you are to breaking your fast at the end of the day as it energises you and replinishes all your lost reserves.
