Recently, the decision to detect and treat all the MDR-TB patients (currently estimated at around one lakh in the country out of which only 5000 are being treated) was taken by the Indian Govt. After this, the Maharashtra state Govt allocated Rs 1.5 crore to BMC for treating XDR-TB patients. As part of the new plan to control XDR-TB cases in the state, the Union Govt has declared Mumbai to be in criteria C, which means that all patients can get the costly drugs free of cost.
The most recent success is that there will now be a test across 18 places in India that will test and confirm MDR TB in just 2 hours compared to the earlier two days to about four months, during which time other people might get infected easily.

The equipment for these tests are being provided to India for free for the next two years by the WHO.
The next step is to declare TB a notifiable disease, which means that all doctors, clinics and hospitals have to report evert case to the Govt. This will be the fourth notifiable disease after Plague, Bird flu and Swine flu.
