Drinking coffee may prevent diabetes

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 422 Million adults have diabetes. But, do you know that having three to four cups of coffee a day can cut down your risk of developing Type-2 diabetes by nearly 25 per cent? Here, we decode the connection between coffee and diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes requires a life-long management. Your body will fail to produce insulin properly if you have type 2 diabetes. It can hamper your quality of life and give you a tough time. It can affect your mental and physical health and can snatch away your peace. But, you will be amazed to know that coffee can help you to keep diabetes at bay. The effect of coffee consumption on Type-2 diabetes was seen in men and women. The same protective effect applied to have the same amount of decaffeinated coffee, revealed study.

Reportedly, according to Mattias Carlstrom, Associate Professor from the Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, it was not just caffeine, but a mix of compounds which included hydroxycinnamic acids – chlorogenic acid, trigonelline, diterpenes eg cafestol and kahweol, and caffeic acid, that may be the reason behind the association.

2018 Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) in Germany, the findings were revealed. The team reviewed 30 prospective studies, with a total of 1,185,210 participants for the purpose of the study.

According to Professor Kjeld Hermansen from the Aarhus University in Denmark, many factors may be involved which include an antioxidant effect, an anti-inflammatory effect, thermogenic effects or the modulation of microbiome diversity.

Reportedly, coffee caused other beneficial changes in the fatty liver and inflammatory adipocytokines related to a lowered risk of diabetes.

According to previous research, coffee plays a vital role in boosting energy and attention levels, lowering depression, multiple sclerosis, burning fat as well as prevents the onset of both Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. So, grab your cup of coffee now to stay fit and fine. But, remember, don’t go overboard.
