US President Donald Trump has finally announced his secret healthcare plan, which he promised during the September 2024 presidential debate. This weekend, almost 10 months after his second term, Donald Trump showed a glimpse of what that plan might look like, all set tor replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

While speaking to a leading media outlet, the US President said, "I want instead of going to the insurance companies, I want the money to go into an account for people, where the people buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody's gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs."

He added, "They're actually gonna be able to go out and negotiate their own health insurance. And they can use it only for that reason, that's the beauty, only for that purpose. Call it Trumpcare, call it whatever you want to call it. Anything but Obamacare. Obamacare is a disaster, just like he was as a president."

New Healthcare Plan Floated On Truth Social

Donald Trump floated the new healthcare concept on his social media platform, Truth Social, where he urged Senate Republicans to draft a bill that would disperse money directly to Americans' accounts with an effort to increase competition and drive down costs.

What Critics Say About Trump's Healthcare Plan?

Interestingly, critics find that the US president's healthcare plan is bluntly worse when compared to Obamacare. Commenting on Trump's healthcare plan, Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy wrote on X Sunday, "This is, unsurprisingly, nonsensical. Is he suggesting eliminating health insurance and giving people a few thousand dollars instead? And then when they get a cancer diagnosis they just go bankrupt?"

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders chimed in to remind Republicans that there was another way. Sanders wrote on X, "Oh, Trump and the Republicans can't stand how the big, bad insurance companies are ripping off Americans. Really? Are you serious? Then I welcome your support for Medicare for All. Let's end the greed of the insurance industry & make healthcare a human right, not a privilege."

Inside American Healthcare Plan: Affordable Care Act

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is a healthcare plan that was signed by former US President Barack Obama in 2010. This health insurance is more consistent and aligns with the American Medical Association's (AMA) policy, including a better health care system.

Under the Ombamacare health insurance, companies with more than 50 employees are required to provide medical insurance to their staff workers. All Americans are required to have medical insurance, and children under age 26 can be covered under their parents' policies.

The current American healthcare system urges insurance companies to provide core services on maternity care and contraceptives. It also provides a refundable tax credit to low-income individuals who purchased their insurance on a government-run marketplace. Interestingly, insurance companies are also prohibited from charging more to women than men. Lastly, the ACA also prohibits insurers from denying coverage or charging more to individuals who have pre-existing medical conditions.
