It is normal to feel bogged down or bloated post Diwali because of all the sweet and fried foods you might have eaten. Intake of such foods can make you feel uneasy and leading to a host of health conditions such as fatigue, anxiety and indigestion. It, therefore, becomes important to recover and cleanse your body from the poor dietary choices you have made over the festival; and detoxing your body is imparative. Well-known dietician Neha Chandna suggests starting the day with fruits is the best way to start a detoxing diet. Consumption of fruits first thing in the morning will help  balance out the acidity of foods you have consumed. Fruits also have many healing and cleansing properties. Being rich in vitamins, they can boost your energy levels and cleanse your body as well. Also Read - Heavy metal detox: Natural ways to flush out toxins from your body

Drink plenty of liquids

Vegetable juice is a great detoxifier. Coconut water and sugarcane juice are also very powerful in cleansing the body. These liquids help to replenish vitamins and minerals leached out of your body due to the ingestion of unhealthy foods. Also, increase your water intake and keep sipping water throughout the day. Water helps metabolise and flush out toxins from the body. Drinking a glass of lukewarm water in the morning with a few drops of lemon juice is a great way to detoxify your body.

Consume sprouts to detoxify

Sprouts are high in sulfur that helps to remove toxins from the blood. According to Neha, including a bowl of sprouts in a day can make up for the proteins, vitamin C and fibre you might have missed out on. Fibre is a great detoxifying agent and helps remove impurities from the intestine. Sprouts also contain phytochemicals that are very effective for cleansing the body.

Have some nuts

Nuts like hazelnut, walnut, peanut, cashew and pistachio have tons of vitamins and anti-inflammatory chemicals. They are an ideal cleansing agent as they are high in fibre and low in calories. Our expert says, ‘A handful of nuts are a great way to fill you up between meals, giving you the vitamin E and protein you need.’

Have basil or sabja seeds

When detoxifying your body, it is essential to ensure that toxins are eliminated properly from the body. Basil seeds have fibre that bind and flushes out toxins from the intestinal tract. They are also a great source of omega-3 fatty acids. Neha advices, to have some soaked basil or sabja seeds in the morning to keep acidity under check.
