Hanoi, Vietnam's capital, is facing a rapid increase in dengue fever cases after a week of heavy rainfall and flooding has transformed the neighbourhood into a mosquito breeding ground. Hospitals are filling up, and health officials are alerting residents to take quick steps to stop the spread of dengue. According to the Honai Centre of Disease Control, the city recorded 336 new cases in a single week, with 17 new outbreak clusters and around 30 still active. These numbers are increasing rapidly after the rainy season, putting pressure on medical facilities already stressed by seasonal infections. Dr Nguy n Thanh B nh, deputy head of the Virology National Hospital of Tropical Disease, said that the sudden increase in Numbers is connected to constant flooding." Following heavy rains and flooding, the density of mosquitoes has increased, even in central areas of Hanoi", he said. Health workers have confirmed several patients in critical condition, including people suffering from dengue shock syndrome and internal bleeding.

After weeks of heavy rainfall, the city is left with standing water in the streets, alleys, and construction sites, which is a suitable environment for the Aedes aegypti mosquito to breed. According to the exports, the poor drainage system and climate change make Hanoi more vulnerable to dengue.
