Dengue Outbreak In Manipur: Health Minister Appeals For Collective Community Participation To Combat The Disease
Dengue cases are rising in Manipur. In the month of August the number of cases were 148 and in September alone, 230 cases have been recorded including one death in Imphal West District. As per official data from the health department, this year at least 448 cases have been reported in the state between January to September. The number of positive cases in Imphal West are 259 and in Imphal East are 117. Amidst this outbreak, the health minister of the state, Sapam Ranjan on Sunday appealed to the people for community participation in combating the disease. The minister reported to the media that there is a high possibility of further surge in diseases.
He also went on to say that dengue cannot be fought alone after which he appealed to the public for more participation and collective action to prevent the disease from spreading further. In order to fight this viral infection, there needs to be participation from public at every level. He said, "Despite the efforts of the department to fight dengue, there has been a rise in the number of positive cases and one fatal case. We want to appeal to the people to join in the fight."
The minister said that they are doing their best to curb the spread. They have started fogging as a campaign and in addition he said that there is a lot of abuse in certain areas which are not helping the efforts to stop the spread. This is the re4ason why public participation in required on priority. Only public cooperation with the department can help prevent the disease.
