After spreading the menace in Bollywood, dengue virus now grips television stars. Reportedly in the last few weeks, around six TV celebs have been diagnosed with dengue. Actors blame the poor hygienic conditions on the sets.
Karanvir Bohra: The latest TV celebrity to be diagnosed with dengue is Karanvir Bohra. The 32-year-old actor, who was recently busy with his shooting for Qubool Hai, was hospitalised on Friday after high fever and weakness hindered his shooting. Revealing that there were a lot of mosquitoes on the set he worked, Karan blamed the dirty rooms and stagnant water accumulated around the sets. Karanvir also revealed that her hates hospital
Dipika Samson: The most loved bahu on television Dipika Samson, who plays Simar in Sasural Simar Ka, was diagnosed with dengue symptoms just when she was about to leave for Hong Kong for a shoot. Unfortunately she had to miss her flight and couldn't join the crew there for completing the shoot. Dipika, too, blamed unhygienic conditions for breeding of mosquitoes and spread of the disease.
Kunal Verma: The 'Hum Hain Na' actor lost his role in the show to dengue diagnosis. After hospitalisation, the actor was replaced by another star. Kunal, too, was disappointed by the fact that production houses neglect working conditions largely. The sets are pooled with stagnant water that serves as a breeding ground for mosquitoes, he said. Preeti Chaudhary: Joining the list of dengue sufferers in television world is the 'Ek Rishta Aisa Bhi' actress Preeti Chaudhary. The actress was unable to continue shooting after diagnosis.
Earlier, actresses Harshita Gaur, Madhura Naik and Ratan Rajput too were diagnosed with dengue and were hospitalised for the same. (Dengue in India: Timely and accurate diagnosis is the need of the hour)
Clearly, production houses and crew members of television industry need to focus on working conditions and shooting locations to ensure that their cast doesn't suffer. The least they can do is educate the unit about basic hygiene and dengue prevention on the sets. Any shooting location that serves as a breeding ground for mosquitoes due to stagnant water pools and junk should be either rejected or cleaned before the shoot begins, as these actors tend to spend the most time of their day on the sets.
