With the minimum temperature dipping 3 C below normal, pollution levels have worsened, making the air more toxic and unhealthy to breathe. According to experts, the combination of low temperature, calm winds and trapped pollutants will increase breathing issues, especially among children, elders, and people who have long-term and heart diseases. These conditions combine to prevent pollutants from dispersing, causing smoke to accumulate near the ground. Factors like vehicle emission, industrial smoke, dust from construction sites and seasonal biomass burning, continue to add to the city pollution burden.
