Delhi Weather Update: Dense Smog Grips National Capital; AQI Exceeds 480; Temperature Drops to 4°C
Delhi Weather Reports: Delhi residents woke up to a bone-chilling winter morning as temperatures plummeted and air pollution soared to hazardous levels. The city's Air Quality Index (AQI) reached a staggering 441, categorizing it as "severe," according to the Central Government's Sameer app. Simultaneously, the mercury dropped to a frosty 5 degrees Celsius, with some areas recording temperatures below 4 degrees Celsius.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a cold wave warning in certain parts of north India, including Jammy and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and more.
Taking cognizance of the deteriorating AQI levels in the national capital, the Sub-Committee of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) implemented Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across the National Capital Region (NCR) on Monday night with "immediate effect" in response to declining air quality. This decision came after Delhi's AQI surpassed the 400 mark. Earlier on Monday night, the AQI was reported as 399 at 9 PM and crossed into the severe zone at 401 by 10 PM.
