Delhi Weather and AQI Level Today: Smog Blankets City, Visibility Impacted Due To Dangerous Air Pollution
Delhi Weather and AQI Today: The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi has soared into the 'severe' category, with readings surpassing 350 in multiple locations. Such pollution levels are deemed hazardous, especially for vulnerable groups like children, the elderly, and those with existing health conditions. The main contributors to this alarming AQI include particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and sulfur dioxide (SO2). Authorities have issued warnings advising residents to limit outdoor activities and take necessary precautions.
Speaking to TheHealthSite.com, Dr Pratibha Dixit, Apollo Hospitals, Delhi, said, "The ramifications of poor air quality on health cannot be ignored. Extended exposure to high levels of air pollution can result in respiratory problems, heart diseases, and other severe health issues. We are about the uptick in hospital visits for asthma and respiratory complaints during this time. It's crucial for residents to stay alert and seek medical help if they experience symptoms like coughing, shortness of breath, or chest pain".
In light of the worsening air quality, the Delhi government has put several measures in place aimed at improving the situation. These include implementing odd-even vehicle rationing, enhancing monitoring of industrial emissions, and cracking down on construction activities that generate dust. Furthermore, public awareness campaigns are being launched to inform citizens about the importance of lowering their carbon footprint and adopting cleaner habits.
