Delhi Pollution News: Thick smog envelops Delhi-NCR, Air Quality Index was 363 at 'severe' level with real-time air pollution PM2.5 and PM10; temperature in national capital around 25 degrees C.

Delhi Weather Report Today: With Diwali just around the corner, the air quality in Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region (NCR) has taken a turn for the worse. A thick layer of smog enveloped the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) Sunday morning as the air quality index (AQI) continued to be "very poor". According to the latest report, AQI was marked 363 at a 'severe' level with real-time air pollution PM2.5, and PM10.

The pollution situation remained serious due to the slowing down of wind speed, dropping temperatures, high moisture levels and the presence of pollution particles.

This comes days ahead of Diwali celebrations, which is expected to worsen the situation further. Taking cognizance of the problem, the Supreme Court had earlier ordered a ban on bursting firecrackers. The apex court has also implemented certain road rules to reduce the pollution levels, till 1st January 2025.

The national capital has been breathing hazardous air quality for the past several days, forcing the authorities to impose stage two of the GRAP or the Graded Response Action Plan.

As per reports, many residents of Delhi-NCR have reported a sudden increase in breathing issues, and other respiratory troubles. Describing the pollution condition as 'suffocating', residents said, "We can't breathe properly; we get tired faster due to the pollution."

Air Pollution Is On The Rise In Delhi: Precautions To Take

Air pollution can do more harm to your body than just breathing issues. As per experts, breathing pollutants can damage the lungs, brain, and fertility ability, kidneys and even the heart. Here are a few steps you must follow to stay safe:

  1. Wear masks that filter out particulate matter, like N95 respirators.
  2. Stay indoors during high pollution periods and
  3. Use air purifiers to help lessen exposure to harmful pollutants

In light of the worsening air quality, the Delhi government has launched a series of measures aimed at reducing pollution. These include limiting construction projects, enforcing odd-even vehicle rules, and promoting public transportation. However, the success of these measures relies heavily on public compliance and awareness. The government is also encouraged to impose stricter regulations on industries that don't adhere to pollution norms.
