Swine flu fever has gripped the nation and the death toll in the national capital has risen to nine after three more deaths were reported on Friday.
According to the Directorate of Health Services (DHS), two patients aged 69 and 51 years succumbed to the viral disease Thursday in central Delhi's B.L. Kapoor hospital and west Delhi's Sri Balaji Action Medical Institute, respectively. Read how to prevent the spread of HINI.
'The point of concern is that while the 69-year-old admitted at B.L. Kapoor was also suffering from blood cancer, the other patient aged 51 was suffering from heart ailment. Swine flu complications intensified their problems,' said a DHS official.
The third death was of a 23-year-old pregnant woman, who was infected with swine flu while she was admitted to the Delhi government's LNJP hospital during her pregnancy. Read the causes, symptoms and treatment options of swine flu.
The woman, a resident of Krishna Nagar in east Delhi, was admitted to LNJP Hospital Feb 5 and succumbed to the viral disease Feb 12.
According to the hospital's medical superintendent, the death could not be reported due to lack of coordination between the hospital and the DHS.
Delhi recorded 2,060 cases of swine flu till Friday. The situation across India also worsened with the total number of positive cases Friday reaching 11,955, with 743 deaths. Here are 10 facts you should know about swine flu.
