A report on Monday suggests that the Vinay Sharma, one of the six accused in the Delhi rape case, is not a minor at all. His bone ossification tests claim that he is 19 years old and should therefore not be tried by the juvenile court but under the existing laws that govern rape cases in the country. The details of the bone ossification tests have been submitted to a court in Delhi that is looking at the case.
Incidentally, Vinay Sharma, a gym instructor is not the one whose original school records suggest he is a juvenile. Sharma had been charge-sheeted along with four other men for their various heinous crimes. His lawyer had claimed that he was a juvenile and should therefore be tried by a juvenile court. My client is a minor and I have requested the court that his case should be moved to the juvenile justice court, Mr Sharma's lawyer AP Singh had said.
