Delhi Flood Alert: The national capital and nearby regions have been put on high alert after officials alerted that the city is at high risk of flooding in the next few hours. The alert comes after the Yamuna River crossed the danger mark, raising fears of flooding in low-lying areas.
Taking cognizance of the situation, authorities have stepped up monitoring and have initiated precautionary measures to prevent any major damage.
According to the reports, the water level of the Yamuna river in Delhi reached 204.88 metres at the Old Railway Bridge here on Thursday, crossing the warning level of 204.5 metres, officials said. The danger mark is 205.3 metres, and evacuation starts at 206 metres. The Old Railway Bridge serves as a key observation point.

As water levels in the Yamuna River cross the danger mark of 205.33, authorities in the national capital have issued a flood warning for the Delhi-NCR regions. Here are the top key points about the weather conditions and IMD weather forecast for the day:
A high alert has been issued to all the agencies in Delhi-NCR concerned to take precautionary measures to deal with a potential flood-like situation.
An overnight downpour in the city has forced authorities to keep the schools and private firms shut on Wednesday.
In Uttar Pradesh, cities like Prayagraj and Varanasi saw intense rainfall, which led to a flood-like situation there. This severely affected daily lives due to waterlogging and overflowing drains, with the swollen Ganga in Varanasi submerging several ghats.
As per the latest reports, several low-lying areas near the Yamuna riverbed, including parts of Majnu Ka Tilla, Kashmere Gate, Nigambodh Ghat, and Yamuna Bazar, are expected to be affected if the water level continues to rise. Residents of these regions have been advised to remain cautious and follow evacuation orders if necessary.
Taking extra measures to keep the people safe in the affected regions, the Delhi government has set up relief camps and shelters.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are on standby to handle any worsening condition due to heavy rains in Delhi-NCR.
Yamuna Continues To Flow Over Danger Mark In Delhi: Check Latest Update
Water level in the Yamuna in Delhi on September 3, at 3:00 PM, was recorded at the Old Railway Bridge (ORB) as 207.09 metres. The discharge from Hathni Kund Barrage stood at 162,779 cusecs. Discharge at Wazirabad Barrage was measured at 174,150 cusecs, while Okhla Barrage recorded a discharge of 200,968 cusecs.
