Delhi Dengue Update: Dengue cases rise to 158

The number of dengue cases in Delhi and its adjoining areas have risen to 158, authorities said. With one more death due to dengue in the city, a total of 141 cases are from Delhi alone, while the remaining 17 are from the adjoining areas of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, a statement from the municipal corporation said. The highest number of 63 cases are from the south municipal corporation, followed by 27 cases from the north corporation and 23 from the east corporation. Mahender Singh, 48, a resident of west Delhi, was the first in the city who succumbed to the vector borne disease last week. Apart from dengue, officials said 57 cases of malaria have also been recorded in the city so far this year. Here are a few simple and practical tips to keep dengue at bay:

Tip # 1: Aedes aegypti mosquitoes are known to bite humans during the day and their most common breeding grounds are man made containers with stagnant water. Therefore, it is advisable to not have any stagnant water around your home. Remember to clean out empty flower pots and not to over water potted plants. If the container that contains water cannot be emptied, remember to cover it well when not in use.

Tip # 2: Since your mother is already ill with dengue, try to not let mosquitoes bite her or others in the house. This will only lead to the

Tip # 3: Turn over empty pails and buckets, so that they do not collect excess water.
