Actress and superstar Deepika Padukone pours her heart out on her phase of depression and anxiety during most of last year in 2014. Managing long hours of work and staying all by herself in Mumbai city, did get to her mental health she revealed to Hindustan Times.
Deepika tried to deal with the situation, thinking it was 'just stress' and began giving herself more to work. When she noticed this wasn't helping her, she let her mother Ujjala Padukone know. From then on, it was all about fighting this phase. Deepika realised a few crucial things - just pouring your heart out or talking about it to a shrink may not be enough. Verifying the depression and anxiety levels is needed. After consulting psychologist Dr Shyam Bhatt in Bengaluru, she was on medication and banked on counselling sessions to guide her through. Now that she feel better, she is doing all that she can to be a part of initiatives and pledges to be involved in mental health awareness in India. Considering that The World Health Organisation (WHO) has announced that depression and anxiety would be the most widespread epidemic in the years to come, she is strongly working towards spreading awareness on the same. More so because she lost a friend due to this mental ailment.
