Cyclone Senyar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning on Thursday afternoon that a deep depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lanka coast is expected to intensify in the next few hours. The IMD took to social media to share that Cyclone Senyar is currently active over the Strait of Malacca, thus, a low pressure over the Southwest Bay of Bengal is expected to escalate. Furthermore, this system is predicted to continue moving North-Northwest across the Bay of Bengal and Sri Lanka, heading towards North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining South Andhra Pradesh in the next 48 hours.
"Cyclonic Storm "Senyar" [Pronunciation: 'Sen-yar'] weakened into a deep depression over the Strait of Malacca The cyclonic storm *Senyar" [Pronunciation: 'Sen-yar'] overcoastal areas of Northeast Indonesia and adjoining strait of Malacca moved east-southeastwards with a speed of 13 kmph in past 6 hours, weakened into deep depression and lay centred at 0530 hours IST of today, the 27th November 2025 near latitude 3.7 N and longitude 99.2 E over the Strait of Malacca, about 280 km east-southeastof Kuta Makmur (Indonesia), 230 km south-southwest of George Town (Malaysia), 790km southeast of Nancowry (Nicobar Islands) and 930 km southeast of Car Nicobar(Nicobar Islands)," the IMDstated on X. "It is very likely to move nearly eastwards and weaken further intoa Depression by 27th afternoon/evening."

Additionally, the India Meteorological Departmentsaid, "It is very likely to move nearly North-Northwestwards across Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lanka and intensify further into a Deep Depression during next 12 hours. Thereafter, it is very likely to intensify further and continue to move North-Northwestwards across Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lanka coast towards North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coast during subsequent 48 hours."

Cyclone Senyar is a tropical cyclone storm that is developing over the Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, as reported by IMD. The cyclone name 'Senyar' means 'lion', it is suggested by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as part of the regional cyclone-naming framework for the North Indian Ocean. According to reports, cyclone Senyar is the second cyclone that is to form in the North Indian Ocean basin during the post-monsoon season in 2025. Previously, the cyclone Montha had hit the Andhra Pradesh coast near Kakinada on October 28. The IMD warns that sea conditions will be risky between November 26-30.
