Cristiano Ronaldo who just scored the final goal to lead his team to their 10th European Cup has an extra bone in his ankle. The discovery was made when the forward received treatment for an injury in 2009 according to a book titled CR7 The Secrets of the Machine written by Luis Miguel Pereira. The book said that the condition was resolved without needing an operation. Another incident from the book stated that such was Ronaldo's fascination with fitness that he in his salad days, he actually broke into the Sporting Lisbon gym to use it without permission.
A security report stated at the time: 'We hereby wish to inform you the athletes Cristiano Ronaldo and Jose Semedo used, without permission, the main fitness and bodybuilding gym where they were found at 11.30pm by the security guard.' Youth coach Luis Martins said: 'I explained to Cristiano that he couldn't go further than what was prescribed to him because that would be harmful for his body and health.'
This news hardly comes as a surprise given his commitment to becoming the best. When he joined United, Cristiano Ronaldo looked too skinny to take on some of the strong defenders in the English Premier League. However, he soon worked on his weaknesses. Deadlifts, power cleans, Olympic lifts along with other strength workouts done quickly made him get closer to the vision of a perfect footballer's body that he had in mind.
'I would say, physically, he is the perfect specimen. From his height to his natural body type, muscular structure, how much fat he's got in his system, his endurance capacity, flexibility, power and strength they are in perfect balance.
He had in his mind, 'I need to make myself special and I'm going to have to learn everything I need to become special. I'm going to have to regiment my day and my week, months and years and become as good as I can be by every possible means.' He had a plan', Mike Clegg, United's former power development coach told BBC. Read more about the Cristiano Ronaldo's rise to the top.
