COVID-19 Live Updates: Vaccines Are Not ‘Disease-Preventing’, Masks Must After Second Dose, Says ICMR Chief
As the threat of a third COVID-19 wave looms large in India, Balram Bhargava, Director, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) warned that Covid vaccines are not 'disease-preventing' but 'disease-modifying', therefore it is 'a must' for everyone to wear their masks after getting the second vaccine dose against the virus infection. Speaking to the media, Bhargava said, "Vaccines reduce disease severity, possibility of hospitalisation and also avert deaths to the tune of 98-99 per cent. Full vaccination offers protection against severe disease and death. But, one must not stop wearing masks after getting fully vaccinated."
Meanwhile, India registered 46,164 new cases of coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours. India's total tally of COVID-19 cases now stands at 3,25,58,530. Follow this space for all the updates related to COVID-19.
