As the fear of the third wave of coronavirus looms large in India, eminent pulmonologist and the director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi, Dr Randeep Guleria on Thursday said that the country may experience a surge in daily cases in the 3rd wave which may hit between September and October. The AIIMS director stressed that lifting up the lockdowns, mass gatherings, not following COVID- appropriate behavior can be the root cause behind another wave of coronavirus in India.
Meanwhile, India saw a single-day rise of 41,383 coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 3,12,57,720, while the active cases registered an increase for the second consecutive day and were recorded at 4,09,394. The country's COVID-19 death toll rose to 4,18,987 with 507 fresh fatalities. The active cases comprise 1.31 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 97.35 per cent. Get all the live updates here.
