Amidst the fear of the third-wave doing rounds in the country, the Centre has allocated Rs 1,353 crore to northeast states under the emergency Covid response package-II, according to Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. In Guwahati, he chaired a review conference with the Health Ministers of northeastern states on the public health response to Covid-19, saying that he is optimistic that the state governments are properly prepared and equipped to deal with the possible third wave of coronavirus.
As for the cases, Assam has seen a modest decrease in the number of new Covid cases in recent weeks. The daily number of new cases has reduced to about 700-800, and the test positive rate (TPR) has likewise fallen below 1%. The state now has about 7,700 active cases.
According to statistics published on Wednesday by the Union Health Ministry, India logged 35,178 new coronavirus infections, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 3,22,85,857, while the national recovery rate increased to 97.52 per cent, the highest since March 2020. The death toll has risen to 4,32,519, including 440 new deaths. The number of active cases has dropped to 3,67,415, the lowest level in 148 days, and accounts for 1.14 per cent of all infections, the lowest level since March 2020, according to the ministry. Over the course of 24 hours, the active COVID-19 caseload was reduced by 2,431 cases.
As per the data from John Hopkins University, the global Covid-19 caseload has exceeded 208.5 million, with 4.38 million fatalities and 4.74 billion vaccines. With 37,009,359 total cases and 623,297 deaths, the United States remains the worst-affected country. In terms of infections, India ranks second with 32,250,679 cases but the good news is that the country is seeing a continuous dip in the number of daily Covid cases.
